Syngas production via microwave-assisted dry reforming of methane

Energy-efficient CH4-CO2 valorization to fuels and chemicals presents an urgent need considering the great variety of methane sources removal greenhouse gases. In present work, microwave-assisted dry reforming methane, DRM, has been carried out in a custom-designed rectangular mono-mode microwave applicator over several catalyst-support combinations, i.e., Pt/C, Ni/Al2O3, mechanical mixture Ni/Al2O3-SiC Ni/SiC. The high steady conversions CH4 CO2 were obtained case all combinations investigated, reached up 90% at WHSV 11,000 mL/g/h, power input 45–60 W, 800 °C. No significant catalyst deactivation observed during 6-h operation except Pt/C catalyst. Moreover, Ni/SiC was shown be interesting, cheap process candidate, able compete with steam reforming.
